Who's Who?

DARC at Althing (SCA) - 2015

« large pic »
Inside the furnace. Air came in from the right side. The tuyere was placed into the wall, but did not penetrate the furnace body. This means that the fire itself stayed small and to the right. After building a bead, we would rake the charcoal from the left to the right to feed the burn zone. This is the reason for the lower charcoal on the right side. A significant depth of ash was visible in the image - even with a effort made later in the day to use the bellows to pulse out as much ash as possible.
