| As an experiment, a second base plate of cobb was placed under the furnace. As with the hearths at Ribe, these remains show the clear fire discolouration, and no trace of walls. In that way it is a clear match for the archaeological remains, what isn't explained is why such a base would be put under a furnace. Previous
