Overview of the Mark2 furnace being charged up with charcoal. Items of note are the glass crucibles on the right, and the whalebone marvering board on the top left. Notice that the worker is sitting with his feet in a pit and the furnace is raised on a mound of dirt. This makes working the furnace easier but we are not sure that it is supported by the archaeology. This is one of the open questions.
