Iron Experiment - May 2009

« large pic »
The smelter finished its construction. The two different colours are caused by two different clay powders being used. Worth noting on this smelter are the smaller inside diameter (20cm instead of the usual 30) giving a much smaller cross section and volume than is normal for us. In addition this smelter is straight clay construction (rather than cobb) as supported by the site archaeology. This would later produce some issues.
